چکیده

We smoothly tune the dimensionality of pancake-shaped Li Fermi gas clouds from quasi-two-dimensional to two-dimensional (2D) to measure radio-frequency spectra and cloud profiles in both regimes. In the quasi-2D case, where EF/hνz 1, with EF the Fermi energy and hνz the harmonic oscillator energy in the tightly confined direction, we confirm that the radio-frequency spectra strongly disagree with 2D mean-field theory. Then we tune to the 2D regime, EF << hνz, where the measured radio-frequency spectra are in very good agreement with 2D mean-field theory. Nevertheless, the measured cloud profiles strongly disagree, confirming predictions that a beyond mean-field approach is required throughout the 2D to quasi-2D crossover.

Topological uniform superfluid and Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov phases in three-dimensional to one-dimensional crossover of spin-orbit-coupled Fermi gases

We consider the quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) system realized by an array of weakly coupled parallel one-dimensional “tubes” in a two-dimensional lattice which permits free motion of atoms in an axial direction in the presence of a Zeeman field, Rashba type spin-orbit coupling (SOC), and an s-wave attractive interaction, while the radial motion is tightly confined. We solve the zero-temperat...

Quasi two-dimensional superfluid Fermi gases

We study a quasi two-dimensional superfluid Fermi gas where the confinement in the third direction is due to a strong harmonic trapping. We investigate the behavior of such a system when the chemical potential is varied and find strong modifications of the superfluid properties due to the discrete harmonic oscillator states. We show that such quasi two-dimensional behavior can be created and ob...

Pairing instabilities in quasi-two-dimensional Fermi gases

We study nonequilibrium dynamics of ultracold two-component Fermi gases in low-dimensional geometries after the interactions are quenched from a weakly interacting to a strongly interacting regime. We develop a T-matrix formalism that takes into account the interplay between Pauli blocking and tight confinement in lowdimensional geometries. We employ our formalism to study the formation of mole...

Spin-imbalanced quasi-two-dimensional Fermi gases.

We measure the density profiles for a Fermi gas of (6)Li containing N(1) spin-up atoms and N(2) spin-down atoms, confined in a quasi-two-dimensional geometry. The spatial profiles are measured as a function of spin imbalance N(2)/N(1) and interaction strength, which is controlled by means of a collisional (Feshbach) resonance. The measured cloud radii and central densities are in disagreement w...

Superfluid fermi gas in a 1D optical lattice.

We calculate the superfluid transition temperature for a two-component 3D Fermi gas in a 1D tight optical lattice and discuss a dimensional crossover from the 3D to quasi-2D regime. For the geometry of finite size discs in the 1D lattice, we find that even for a large number of atoms per disc the critical effective tunneling rate for a quantum transition to the Mott insulator state can be large...
